Our primary goal as we work with our customers at the park is that they are safe and having a great time. Making sure everyone is safe is a multi faceted endeavor. Our 2 basic rules at TheField are: while you are on the playing fields (inside the netting) everyone's mask is on and when players are outside the playing fields (outside the netting) barrel bags are in place. Your job is to constantly be aware of your surroundings and making sure these two rules are being followed. You must also make yourself aware of other safety concerns. Are children throwing paintballs at each other? Are you and the other refs keeping yourselves hydrated? Are your players showing signs of heat distress? Is the netting intact? Are there gopher holes on the fields? As you can see, our referees have a lot of responsibility when it comes to safety. Your other goal is to make sure that everyone is having a great time. It is important that new players feel comfortable and more experienced players are satisfied. Young or new players need to feel that they can ask questions and not be intimidated. These players need to be looked after. It is your responsibility to make sure they go home with lots of great stories and that they want to come back every weekend. More experienced players are looking for a more intense game. They don't want to be babied or talked down to. You must be able to treat players with respect, get them to do what you want, and not be confrontational. Our referees control the frequency of games, they match up similarly experienced players, and they make fair calls and decisions. We understand that you have not been trained.
